Indian movies have always revolved around one fact –“acchai ki hamesha jeet hoti hai” and Kaanchi movie is no exception to it. It’s just an unnecessary addition to it.
It’s a story of a simple yet a very bold and brave girl named Kaanchi (Mishti) who lives in Kosampa, a small village in Uttarakhand. Kaanchi’s lover Binda (Karthik Tiwari) is murdered by Sushant, son of a politician-Shyam Kakda (Mithun Chakraborty). Shyam Da is determined to make a resort valley in Kosampa (a land of retired army men) and is a very influential politician. Kaanchi decides to take the revenge for her lover’s murder and save Kosampa. So she goes to Mumbai to accomplish her Mission and destroy the fame of the Kakdas. The story definitely highlights some bitter facts of few dirty politicians. At the end Kaanchi succeeds in achieving her aim (like in every melodrama we have the victory of good person.) Only good fact about the film is that it highlights the spirit, courage and determination of a woman when she faces injustice. But then it actually features a typical story of crime and revenge which makes you feel very dull and boring.
There is nothing called ‘new touch’ or ‘unique twist’ in the story. Subhash Ghai as a veteran director of Bollywood has not made the movie live up to the expectations of the people. It’s not up to the mark at all. You will not get even a single trace of excitement in watching Kaanchi as you would for Taal or Pardes. Mishti tries to make a good debut but has not given her best. She really needs to learn more. Any normal person will not feel the grip throughout the film. The script is something which even you or I would create as there is nothing extraordinary in it. A good film is one which makes you satisfied and contended. But Kaanchi makes a person’s head spin with a repeated story and a very old concept. Even listening to the music of the film composed by Salim-Sulaiman and Ismail Darbar can turn out to be the worst experience for music lovers.
The film could have been much better but the way it has been made lacks most of the essentials. The film also remains a bit unpolished in creating proper sequence of events. The director has added all types of action, thrill, romance and suspense. But that has made it a Jack of all and Master of none’ type movie. You would actually scratch your head by the time the movie reaches its climax.
So it’s a humble request to Mr.Subhash Ghai to improve and make a ‘complete’ script next time and avoid creating disasters like Kaanchi as people expect a lot from you.
And to my dear readers, I would like to say please don’t go and watch Kaanchi at all. It’s actually a disaster. You gain very little and suffer more by watching the film. It’s not a paisa-wasool but a paisa-barbaad type movie which means a loss of both time and money. And that’s not good in today’s age you see.
That’s all about the review.
