Dawn of a New story and Stupidity.
Dawn of a New story and Stupidity.
*Spoiler alert*
Don't get me wrong. The story is not stupid. The story is kind of a little clichéd on human nature. But, the movie. It is stupid. Just stupid in many ways. Their 2 hours, 1 day or 3 days never seem to end, they just go on till when the job is done. The alpha ape is hit and falls beside is home but is found in the forests. His wound can be stitched.
I mean imagine. An ape is hit and his wound is stitched. It’s easy to grasp talking apes and shit from the first movie but this is a little too much. Wait but it’s not over. Hollywood learns from Bollywood. Ape is the hero, hence, until he meets the villain, he remains wounded, weak but during his fight, he gains all the power of the world and rather obviously wins the battle. And of course, Apes are so light that 2 not so strong humans can pick an adult one by ease. Now there are many more stupid mistakes like this in the movie but I don't want to be the one to spoil it for you, I'll leave that burden on you.
Also, a very intriguing part which went a little unnoticed the first part too. Caesar the offspring of an ape injected from ALZ-112. Every other Ape which has super abilities was exposed to a much powerful ALZ-113. So, why Caesar leads them and is able to defeat anyone who defies him? Still unknown. Coming to ALZ-113, it was a very poor beginning for the film. Showing in a few bits as to what happened to the human race thanks to ALZ-113 wasn't very helping to understand that the last scene of the First film left a hint that the ALZ-113 is a virus kind not good for humans. Now what happened after that, how did the humans across the world get affected from it? Not much clue given in the film.
The story. It is good. Again, just remember its Sci-fi and don't go to put on brains of how Apes and you'll like the story. I think the story perfectly defines how Humans have evolved from Apes and how there isn't much difference in the two kinds. We are more or less the same. There is a bunch in both who Trust while there is always that bunch who Hate or have started to hate thanks to their past experiences which of course, the humans are to blame in treatment of animals.
The point, the story brings a defining point in the trilogy. With few humans and apes, and a war already started, they've put down a very good platform for the Third installment and I am sure it would be more entertaining given that it shall hold the big much awaited war as we don't understand the meaning of forgiveness.
The special effects. The sci-fi movies of this decade really don't need much mention in here. Almost all sci-fi movies have been tremendous in the area and this movie does not fall short. The special effects weren't exquisite but they were amazing. The Apes, very realistic, strong, amazing creatures thanks to these effects. Best one would be an Ape riding a horse with a Machine Gun.
The performance of the cast is somewhat debatable. Some might say they were really good while few might think the opposite. Well, I definitely think that the cast was a letdown. Not entirely but yes, they could've afforded a much better leader than Jason Clarke. If Gary Oldman and Clarke had switched roles too, it would've been much better I guess. Oldman doesn't disappoint while Clarke doesn't do good.
Kodi-Smit McPhee was terrible. His role, I feel was very important but his expressionless face just ruined it. Keri Russell was alright. Didn't really have much to do. In fact, there wasn't much of Human cast in the film so there aren't any other notable mentions than these.
Andy Serkis gave Caesar's voice and sure did a good job as he paused and showed that Caesar is an Ape not Human who can speak at ease.
The Apes talking to each other was a disappointment again. Their sign language lacked many signs while the Ape voices were far and few. Their voice as talking Apes were the only good parts of their communication though again there was a limit to that.
The sound effects were good. Not great. Definitely nothing better than average when it came to just Apes but good when the fight or major scenes came up. The choice of locations and cinematography were alright though it was again a mystery of how a virus which kills humans caused destruction in the cities.
The movie was also very slow. It could've gotten over quickly but the scenes were stretched too much and that caused the movie to be a little boring as it wasn't even an edge of the seat thriller. Could’ve easily dozed off in that first hour if I didn't have people to talk to. The only jokes in the movie are cracked by the audience.
Overall, it was a little better than that first film when it came to story and logic but was a very stupid film and wasn't any better than its predecessor overall. If you are looking at entertainment, you should avoid this one. Not worth the money unless a morning show. Good for Visual and Special effects and people who look forward to the trilogy.
