The mind is quite a peculiar part of the body, so are its uses. The mind is the literal and figurative head of the body, as it controls your actions and instincts such as fear, pain or confidence. In most sports there are always two main things- the first being physical fitness and the second and most important is to be mentally strong. One such sport which requires a strong mindset is LAWN TENNIS.
When I say ‘LAWN Tennis’ or ‘Tennis’ as it is more widely known, the first thing that would come to your mind would be a really long lawn with two poles on the side and a net which divides the lawn into two halves, roughly speaking. The immediate next thought would contain names such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or The Wimbledon. Now if these names don’t add up to mean anything to you I will help you out with that part. Just going into the History of the game (I am not going to bore you to death, just a few more names and two to three dates). Lawn Tennis originated(was first played) in Birmingham, England. The world’s first Tennis Club was founded at Leamington Spa in 1872.
Well that’s with the History now coming to the Current Happenings. There are four Major International Tournaments that take place in different parts of the world, which are called the ‘Majors’. They attract the most audiences and media attention and offer the most ranking points and prize money. They are:
1. Australian Open which takes place in mid January at Melbourne and is played on a Hard Court Surface.
2. French Open or often referred to as Roland Garros takes pace between late May and early June at Paris and is Played on Clay Courts.
3. Wimbledon or The Championships Wimbledon takes place in late June and early July at London and is played on Grass Courts. It is the only Major to hold a tournament on Grass Courts.
4. The US Open (United States Open Tennis Championship) takes place between late August and early September at New York and is played on Acrylic Hard Courts.
Well that’s a gist of the Four Majors in Tennis. The ITF (International Tennis Federation) is the World Governing body of Lawn Tennis which consists of 210 national tennis associations.
With enough of the facts and figures lets discuss what's currently happening.
I am of the opinion that Nadal who made a tremendous come back at the end of 2013 will continue to dominate with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer unless his body doesn’t support him. Also, age might be catching up with Roger Federer but that does not stop him from winning. Currently we have the Indian Wells Tournament happening which will be followed by the Sony Ericsson Open, then the Rolex Masters and The Rogers Cup going into the month of August.
Well that’s all for now.. till next time, GAME SET AND MATCH!
