Cell Phone ‘radiations’ have been under immense scrutiny lately and have been blamed for everything from brain tumours to miscarriages. Thousands of activists have been up in arms against the telecommunication industry and have accused them of staging a mass pogrom against humanity. Hundreds of quacks have begun selling 'radiation proof' ear cases to protect your loved and dear ones from cell phone radiations. Seeing this seemingly idiotic propaganda spread like wildfire bewilders me.
Let me prove to you, that Cell Phone Radiations are COMPLETELY HARMLESS. But before, that we need to know how cell phones work. Cell phones basically work via receiving and transmitting 'radio waves'. And yes, these are 'radiations'. But they belong to a special group of radiations that scientists like to call 'Electromagnetic Radiation'. This spectra of radiations consist of many groups of radiations that include
The major differences among them – and what distinguishes the harmful gamma ray from the innocuous radio wave – lie in their wavelength and frequency. Simply put, frequency is the measure of how fast a wave moves from one end to another. Meanwhile, the wavelength measure how wide a wave is.
Now that we haves few basic concepts of elementary science in place, let me proceed to prove what I had promised you. And let me use the famous 'Proof by Contradiction' technique.
Assume for a moment that Cell Phone Radiations do indeed cause diseases like cancer, infertility and brain tumors.
Now, if a certain type of radiations were to harm the human body, fry the cells, modify its genetic content and mutate it to cause ‘cancer’ it would first have to penetrate our skin. This is where frequency and wavelength come in. intituively, it is obvious that a wave which has a very high frequency and very low wavelength (i.e. it moves very quickly from one end to its extreme and is extremely narrow and concentrated) – is more potent than a wave which has low frequency and high wavelength. Simply put. The greater the frequency and lower the wave length a radiation has, the more harmful it is.
Now, if Radio Waves indeed did cause cancer then Microwaves should by that logic should too cause cancer – because as said before they have are after radio waves in the EMR series. Hmmm. But that is what is the health section of Bombay Times says too! Okay, let assume that is correct too. Microwaves too cause cancer. But then, by that extention infrared rays also cause mutations. Okay, let is assume that too.And now, for the voila moment…. By further extention of this logic, LIGHT (yes you heard me right! Normal visible light!) too should cause cancer. Now wait a minute! Did I just state that light causes cancer?
Well, light has a wavelength one thousand times lesser than radio waves! And it's frequency is approximately one thousand times greater than radio waves. (I.e it is 1000 times as small and 1000 times as fast). Assuming that our initial hypothesis – that radio waves cause cancer – is true, then by this inexplicable logic, visible light must cause cancer too!
Now clearly this statement is grostequely wrong. If light indeed were potent enough to cause cancer – humanity would either have been wiped out eons ago or would’ve evolved down the years to adjust to this. Whatever the case maybe, light doesn't cause any bodily ailments. And this is in direct contradiction of our initial hypothesis. Which means, that our initial hypothesis in effect was false! Behold the power of logic! I have disproved what thousands of pseudo, attention seeking, ‘activists’ claim to be an inescapable truth.
Indeed, the claims of these pseudo scientists are a bunch of lies, designed to trap and fool the naïve. And so, the next time you hear “Radiation Activists” claiming that cell phone waves can fry everything from eggs to babies brains – do me a favour, take an egg and THWACK it on their face. They deserve it!
