Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
After a week of no good releases ,Dibakar banerjee’s Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! Seemed like the only ray of hope to save Bollywood fans from pure boredom and indeed it has lived upto it’s expectations.
Created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay , seeing the indian Sherlock holmes come to the big screen has not only created excitement and anticipation but has also raised our hopes towards the mystery genre in indian cinema. While the disappointing fact about the movie is that it isn’t as fast paced as the trailer shows it to be there are many plus points to it. The dialogues are engaging, a key point to a slow paced film which has many dialogues in it, while the story is alleged to be straightforward and non-engaging, I personally feel that there is nothing wrong with it and our bakshy babu could not have had a better “first” case. It is engaging, interesting and thrilling, don’t worry. Another strong point of the film is its Calcutta re-creation and authenticity, the film makers have made it look as authentic as possible and its something that can be appreciated. Coming to the critical point of any movie, acting, I must admit that the man of the hour Sushant Singh Rajput has done a commendable performance, the man has portrayed the character with full dedication which is enjoyed throughout the film. Anand tiwari has done a great job too and its good to see him besides Sushant Singh Rajput, a perfect role for him. Divya Menon and Swastika Mukherjee did not have much of a role in the film, but that should be no excuse for the feeble and half hearted dialogue deliveries they gave, not a big issue but it could have been better is what I feel.
Neeraj Kabi has done an excellent job, the man has done justice to his character brilliantly and I hope to see more of him in the films to come of this exciting new series! The music being groovy with songs like Calcutta kiss and chase in Chinatown should not be a problem. Overall this is a great thriller mystery and one can only hope and expect better from Dibakar Banerjee. Slow, but least disappointing if you have seen furious 7 and have nothing to do, go ahead watch this film.
It’s funny how both these huge films released after a dry week of nothing, but again as bakshy babu says, “ Duniya mei koi bhi cheez aisi hi nai hoti”
