Entertaining Predictable Superheroes.
Rating: 4/5 Stars.
This is Marvel's first animated film inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team by the same name. The film tells the story of a young robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada, who forms a superhero team to combat a masked villain responsible for the death of Hiro's older brother. A very plain, simple story which led to the emergence of the superheroes of San Fransokyo, the movie has tinkered with the comic books to a great extent as it is animated and not a part of the MCU timeline. The movie is an entertainer as is expected from Marvel, renowned for their fantastic plots. The story is very predictable from the beginning itself which is not really a good thing, even for an animated film. That is very disappointing though, as the rest of the movie really stands out with the story and plot pulling it down.
Other than the story, everything else in the movie really stood out, the animation being the most remarkable bit. The colors used to show the mixture of San Francisco and Tokyo were beautiful with a lot of Red, orange, yellow added to green in the process. It was a great mashup of Western and Eastern cultures. The animation looked as if it had been created using latest technology and was excellent at all times. This is probably the first animated movie which featured a lot of action moves and stunts which really surprised all of us. It was unlike a regular animated film, featuring the action of mainstream films, the comic effects of Marvel and the colors and "cute" nature of animated movies, the perfect mix one needs for a good, entertaining film.
The voice cast was really good. It included Scott Adsit, Ryan Potter, Daniel Henney, Jamie Chung, James Cromwell, Damon Wayans and Genesis Rodriguez. All of them were good with nothing great about them except for of course, TJ Miller. He gave voice for Fred, someone who definitely fits Miller's character from previous TV shows and movies and Miller couldn't have done a better job. His work in there was fantastic.
Scott Adsit had an unusual role of giving voice to a healthcare robot but he made it really fun and enjoyable for the audience. His cues, timings, etc seemed to be spot on making Baymax's actions and voice and of course his round chubby body the most adorable aspect in the entire movie.
As seen in the trailers and posters, he just keeps getting better and better. His dialogues, movement, ideologies, everything about him just made him a super cute robot who turned out to be a superhero who, furthermore, does not kill. Other than our cute superhero, it had a really cool and badass villain. The concept of Microbots was a great idea and they served the purpose of the villain's main weapon perfectly. The ideas behind this movie were truly admirable. The part of the story which portrayed superheroes being created by scientists really caught my attention, as it was refreshing change from them being a resident of some far-off planet. The equipment and gadgets shown were awesome though most of them will probably always remain a dream.
Overall it was a very entertaining film. It is one for all age groups and all you need is a group of friends or family to go with and you will definitely enjoy it. If you've had a rough day at work I would definitely recommend seeing this movie. Not one for people looking for serious movies, though we have Interstellar in the wings for that.
