In today’s world we are busy hurrying with everything. This so called “social media” (which was supposed to make things better) has in turn left our lives cluttered, complicated and chaotic. It won’t be wrong to say that this social media has taken away the true essence of life.
Long back I received an email that completely changed my perspective towards life. There was a beautiful poem whose last stanza goes like
“ When you run so fast
To get somewhere
You miss half the fun
Of getting there
When you worry and hurry
Throughout your day
It’s like an unopened gift
Thrown away
Life isn’t a race so take it slower
Hear the music before your song is over “
It’s high time we start stepping away from our phones and watch the magic of nature, live life but not in the virtual world. We have sold out our feelings to the so called emoticons. Being there for our friends has been replaced by an emotionless and rather formal “get well soon” group message.
We are stuck in this world of social media, a world of self-interest, self-image, self-promotion, where we are all sharing the best moments of life but leaving out the emotions. We are very happy when we have a great experience in life along with our friends or some company, but is it really the same when we share it on the net?
So whenever you start feeling alone in a crowd, you know it is time to shut down your phone display. You don’t really need to keep staring at your menu or contact list. Talk to people, COEXIST! I’m afraid that due to this social media, one day, there will be silence even in a busy commuter train, where no one will want to talk for the fear of looking insane.
We are surrounded by children who, ever since they were born, have seen us living like robots and think it’s completely normal. When I was a child I have no idea about what a cell phone was supposed to be used for when we have a telephone at home. All I knew was bicycles, parks, treehouses, swings, torn jeans, grazed knees, muddy clothes and outdoor games. But now the park is so quiet, the swings are hanging still. There is no child outside. It really gives me a chill to see such a sight.
We have become a generation of idiots: smart phones and dumb people. When you shall step away from your device of delusion u will awaken to see a world where we have become slaves to the technology we mastered, a world of chaos and confusion.
I too am guilty of being a part of this weird digital world where we are typing instead of talking, spending hours together without making eye contact. We are being heard but not seen. We are leaving the essence of life behind. We need to step away from this social networking and make the most of each day. We have a finite existence, a set number of days. If we don’t stop this norm of social media, when our end will be near, nothing will be worse than regret. We need to understand that one real connection in today’s world, just being there emotionally and physically (and definitely NOT virtually) can make a big difference.
These are just blunt thoughts from my mind, no great people’s words. All I want to say is:-
“ Don’t give into a life
Where you follow the hype
Five people you love
And not a like
Disconnect from the need
To be heard and defined
Go out in the world
Leave distractions behind
So step away from your phone
Shut down that display
Connect with people
Live life the real way! “
