History Repeats Itself.
FULL TIME: Chelsea 2-0 PSG (Chelsea win on away goals)
Chelsea are into the semi-finals! It's a famous night at Stamford Bridge, and all the players are dancing around the pitch to Madness's One Step Beyond. Whether it's a triumph of the human spirit or just one of those things that sometimes happens in football is open to debate.
Chelsea did not play particularly well; against that, they hit the bar twice and found one last push when they really needed it, with four or five minutes of concerted pressure culminating in Demba Ba's decisive goal. Some of their players were excellent, particularly Schurrle, Terry and Azpilicueta, and their wonderful run at Stamford Bridge goes on. PSG will have considerable regrets from this game. They were weak and wishy-washy going forward.
They will probably be outsiders in the semi-finals, though they won't mind that - not after 2012, and not after this, the kind of victory that gives a team a sense of destiny.
Eden Hazard got off in the 17th minute after reportedly being seen limping on the field Andre schûrrle replaced the Belgium winger. He was a complete beauty and set toll to the game.
Chelsea had two changes in the second half which were Demba Ba (66th min) and Fernando Torres (81st min) the winning goal was scored by Ba. Technically, it was a miscue but he found the back of the net, so who cares?
In the aftermath of the winning goal, Mourinho ran half the length of the field to drag Torres and Schurrle out of the celebratory pile-up and teach them how to be defenders. You just can’t get enough of this guy!
History does repeat itself and the Stamford Bridge was left rocking once again. Chelsea were in luck but more in luck was The Special One as even though of his arrogance which was clearly noted in the pre-match talk Chelsea are through.
Congratulations to the Blues. Ktbffh!
