"I'm not saying that everything is survivable. Just that everything except the last thing is." - John Green, Paper Towns. So, how many TFIOS fans do we have out here?
*waves hand like a maniac*
We all know author John Green and how he captured many hearts through the infamous 'Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace'.
But how many of you fellow readers thought of John Green as a 'romance fiction' writer at first? Well, at least I did. But, turns out, Green basically writes mystery-detective stuff. That caught my eye, and so, I went on to check out another one of his books. That's when the name 'Paper Towns' intrigued me. Next thing you know, I'm hooked onto the unique tale of 'Quentin Jacobsen and Margo Roth'. Two extraordinarily ordinary teens. And if you're expecting something like TFIOS; I'd say, yes, every one of Greens books has an 'out of this world' element.
Picture a book starting with two primary kids finding the corpse of a man that's committed suicide. Then, imagine yourself on a really long road trip (skipping your long awaited graduation ceremony) with three nerds and a control freak girl. A road trip to a place you've been 'lead to' by clues that you are unsure of. A road trip in search of a friend, a friend you're not sure is alive.
I know, it seems absurd, much more vague than two kids struggling with cancer and finding love. But this book has it all, from the clichéd 'guy next door' to it's very own version of Wikipedia (Omnictionary).
But I think, if you've fallen in love with Gus Waters' witty lines and Hazel's twisted thinking, you're not too far from loving 'Paper Towns'.
The best part about John Green's books is the fact that he somehow hits you with reality, through fiction.
I really hope you give this book a chance. And all you non-readers can patiently wait for the movie that releases on the 19th of June 2015. And so, I leave you with a quote from the book..
"That's always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they're pretty. It's like picking your breakfast cereals based on color instead of taste."
